Convert a YouTube Video to MP3 in Three Steps

Step 1: copy the video link. On a computer, select the address in the browser bar while the video is open and copy it. In the YouTube app, tap Share under the video and choose Copy link. Both the long youtube.com/watch?v= form and the short youtu.be/ form work. You can also type a song title or artist name into the box and pick the right result from the list.

Step 2: paste it into YTMP3 and click Convert. The converter reads the video, checks that it is available and prepares the audio and video streams. A typical four-minute music video is ready in well under half a minute. Longer recordings take proportionally longer, so a two-hour mix may need a minute or two.

Sizes are estimates and vary with the content. Speech compresses far better than dense music, and a static slideshow makes a much smaller MP4 than fast-moving footage. Note that the converter cannot invent detail that is not in the source: a video uploaded in 480p will not become sharper when saved as 1080p, and a low-quality audio track will not sound better at 320 kbps.

MP3 or MP4: Which One Should You Choose?

Choose MP3 when the sound is what matters. Music, interviews, audiobooks, language lessons and podcasts all belong here. MP3 files are small, play on every device made in the last twenty years, and can be dropped straight into a phone's music app, a car USB stick or a playlist in your media player.

Choose MP4 when you need to see something: a tutorial that shows steps on screen, a concert recording, a sports clip, or a lecture with slides. MP4 with H.264 video plays natively on iPhone, Android, Windows, macOS and smart TVs, so you will not need any extra codec or player.

If you are unsure, start with MP3. It downloads faster, and you can always come back and save the MP4 version of the same link later.

Using YTMP3 on Different Devices

On iPhone and iPad

Open Safari, paste the link and convert as usual. When you tap Download, iOS asks whether to save the file; confirm and it goes to the Downloads folder inside the Files app. From there you can play it directly, share it to another app, or add it to a playlist in an app that accepts local audio. No jailbreak or third-party app is needed.

On Android

Chrome, Samsung Internet and Firefox all handle the download automatically. The file appears in the Download folder and in your notification shade. Most Android music players scan that folder on their own, so the track shows up in your library within seconds.

On Windows and Mac

Desktop browsers save the file to the default downloads folder. If you convert many videos, set your browser to ask where to save each file, so you can sort tracks into folders as you go. Both Windows Media Player and Apple Music accept the MP3 and MP4 files that YTMP3 produces.

Troubleshooting: When a Conversion Does Not Work

The video is private, removed or age-restricted. The converter can only access what an anonymous visitor could watch on YouTube. Private uploads, deleted videos and content that requires signing in to confirm your age cannot be processed.

The link is a playlist, a channel or a live stream. YTMP3 works with individual, finished videos. Copy the link of a single video from the playlist instead. Live broadcasts become available once the stream has ended and YouTube has finished processing the recording.

The download starts but the file is empty or will not play. This usually means the download was interrupted. Convert the link again and wait for the button to appear before tapping it. On mobile, make sure the browser has permission to save files to storage.

Nothing happens after clicking Convert. Check that the address is a complete YouTube URL and not a shortened link from another service. Ad-blockers or privacy extensions occasionally block the request; try disabling them for this page only.

Copyright and Responsible Use

YTMP3 is a technical tool, and you are responsible for how you use it. Downloading a video for your own private, offline use is treated differently from country to country, but redistributing, selling or re-uploading copyrighted material is not permitted anywhere.
